Class Description:
It is Kate's philosophy that ceramics education can be broken down into four pillars: Functionality, Building Methods, Surface Decoration and Production. This class welcomes the beginner adult ceramics student. Students will be tasked with learning to consider the function of their vessel, before beginning creation, even sketching out their designs. Students will explore all means of ceramic handbuilding, including extruding, pinching, coiling and slab-building clay vessels, known as wares. Wares created in class will be dishwasher, microwave and ovensafe. Students will finish the term feeling confident with clay. No prior art experience required.
