It Matters To Your Artist That Our Summer Youth & Teen Classes Run Twice

Take every class you can, as often as you can.

When it comes to Youth and Teen Classes, we run our yearly program, much different than our summer program.  Let me first start out by saying that I absolutely love the way we teach our teens and youth!  During the course of the school year, which is 34 weeks, students will learn drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media and printmaking techniques. Parents typically report that after just one year at Kate's Art School, they see big and exciting advances in their child's artwork. All of the mediums (drawing, painting, sculpture, etc), help build skills in each other, so it is important that in this type of program, we practice it all. This is a techniques-based program, not a project-based program, so students learn tools and techniques to add to their already existing art practice and exploration, at home.

If I could make the adults take classes like this, I would, but it's much harder convincing adults to learn sculpture in order to get better at drawing, and collage to get better at painting, etc.

Not only do we practice all of the different mediums (drawing, painting, mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, and printmaking), but we also dive thoroughly into each medium, spending at least a month on each one.  During each unit, students make huge progress!

So when it comes time for summer classes, we run things much differently.  Students get to sign up for a one or two day class in a singular medium.  Although it's fun to get extra practice on the medium that interests students a lot, it doesn't leave a lot of time to acquire mastery.  So, during the summer, we offer each class twice, and although not mandatory, we highly recommend that the student take the class twice, because the first time an artist only tries, but the second time, an artist expands.

Our summer classes have just started to enroll, but they're first come, first served.
